Built in1589, Morro Castle (Castillo de los Tres Reyes Magos del Morro) has stood as a harbor defense in Havana, Cuba. While it is a tourist and historical attraction today, it was a formidable defense in its time, and even as late as the early 1960s was used to imprison those captured in the CIA-sponsored failed Bay of Pigs invasion. As Iceland’s glaciers break up, chucks of ice – large and small – find their way to the ocean. Caught in the tidal currents and surf, many of these chunks are deposited on the basalt beaches providing a great back drop for the often clear ice as it catches the light.
New York City’s summers can be sizzlers, but that’s no reason to retreat to some air conditioned flat. Whether in parks or school yards, it’s not hard to find folks enjoying a pick-up basketball game, cycling, playing tennis or just hanging out with friends and family.
The artist's task is not to alter the world
as the eye sees it...but to perceive the aesthetic reality within the actual world...As a photographer, I enjoy creating images that communicate and touch others. My approach to photography and life is to remain open, trust my instincts, and discard labels that are divisive. Experience and technology continue to increase my creative options and productivity, but do not replace my vision and responsibility.
Staying instinctive, remaining vigilant, and working the opportunity are critical. When in doubt, I do something different or unexpected.
Often my images reflect a blend of my lifelong interests in art, nature, technology, aviation, urban life, and societal change. Sometimes enhanced with words and design, those images have communicated the challenges, dreams, achievements, or sorrows that are found in the daily lives of many.

In his forward to Helen Levitt’s photographic masterpiece, A Way of Seeing, James Agee wrote the quote shown above. That is what I hope I do in making images, and creating the descriptions and stories around them.
Finding, capturing and rendering images that communicate a way of seeing is what I intend to create. I believe that my best opportunities are still to be found.
Everything else is negotiation, logistics, and technology. Add to that a bit of luck, and we can all be pleased with the results.
